AL SLC, THERAPY TARGETS ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
LANGUAGE EXPRESSION(THE PRODUCTION OF SPOKEN AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION):
Difficulty developing single words, combining words, poor sentence structure.
LANGUAGE COMPREHENSION(UNDERSTANDING SPOKEN AND WRITTEN LANGUAGE):
Difficulty following directions and understanding concepts such as color, shape, opposite.
AUDITORY PROCESSING(THE BRAIN'S ABILITY TO PROCESS WHAT IS HEARD):
Difficulty following directions and listening; an inability to recall words.
ARTICULATION (PHONEME/SPEECH SOUND PRODUCTION):
Substituting, distorting or omitting sounds.
PRAGMATIC SKILLS (APPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION IN SOCIAL SITUATIONS):
Inappropriate body language, eye contact, or responses in social situations.

THERAPY IS TAILORED WITH CLEAR OBJECTIVES AND SESSION PLANS:
At SLC, language therapy is individualized to meet each child’s needs and to address his / her SMART objectives; each within his own potential.
TECHNIQUES, STRATEGIES & APPROACHES:
Many different models, programs, and procedures exist for meeting those needs.
- Children with severe language disorders may have to use augmentative and alternative communication devices to assist them.
- Behavior management plays an important role in language therapy especially for young uncooperative children with severe behavior problems.
FORMAT:
Language therapy can be carried out in individual 1:1 and / or group settings using structured, semi-structured or informal techniques.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION USED DURING THE SESSIONS:
Either English or Arabic.
DURATION:
Each session lasts for 30-40 minutes. The frequency of sessions varies depending on the severity of the difficulties that the child exhibit. The last 5 minutes of each session is spent with the caregiver to discuss weekly objectives, any observations made during the session and the child’s response to the session.

Language therapy must be individualized to meet children's needs. Many different models, programs, and procedures exist for meeting those needs. In designing therapy programs and while determining the child’s baseline, speech & language therapists and phoniatricians working at the SLC can choose from the list of systematic curricula and scientific programs that are available at the clinic. At the SLC, several programs are integrated together. However, the most important one used at the clinic for building language objectives is the ACB (Arabic Curriculum Builder).
WHAT IS ACB?
ACB is an easy-to-use, all-in-one curriculum and tracking system that can be used by professionals and parents working with children having language and communication difficulties.
AGE RANGE
- ACB can be used with children aged from birth up-to-8+ years old.
- ACB can be also used with older children; depending on the language level they are functioning at.

LEVELS:
Skills included in ACB were chosen and arranged after thoroughly studying the literature related to the normal pattern of language acquisition in typically developing children. The aim is to provide professionals with 7 language levels that are graded in difficulty & complexity. Each level is further subdivided into four sublevels.
