Oral Motor Disorders

Oral motor disorders are sometimes seen in children having speech problems.

Oral Motor Therapy is sometimes needed in certian cases and should be done by a qualified professional who is specialized in this area.

MAIN GOALS
TO IMPROVE THE FUNCTION OF THE ARTICULATORY ORGANS RESPONSIBLE FOR SPEECH SOUND PRODUCTION, CHEWING AND SWALLOWING.

THESE INCLUDE:

  • Tongue
  • Lips
  • Jaw
  • Cheeks

THESE EXERCISES, IF USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER INDICATED LINES OF THERAPY IN CERTAIN CASES CAN:

  • Improve the functions of the articulatory organs
  • Develop the ability of the child to properly produce various speech sounds
  • Increase oral and peri-oral (around the mouth)-sensory awareness
  • Improve sucking abilities
  • Improve swallowing abilities (especially oral-preparatory and oral phases)
